This distinctive, cinematic, feminist western, conceived and directed by the talented Dutch Auteur, Martin Koolhoven, attracted a stellar cast including Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Kit Harrington, Paul Anderson and the wonderful newcomer Emilia Jones. I worked creatively on the film, and in particular on the screenplay in development, and throughout the production and post-production process, on occasion having to navigate a path with the controversial material between the ambitious creative vision and the necessary commercial requirements. Brimstone premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival and was also selected in Toronto and nominated in competition for Best Film at the London Film Festival.
