From the Ashes is a remarkable tale of English cricket in the summer of 1981 when the sport was changed forever because of the magical victory of the English cricket team including the iconic Ian Botham, David Gower, Mike Brearley, Bob Willis, over Australian heroes Rodney Marsh and Kim Hughes. When the film was pitched to me at The Documentary Company by Nadine Marsh Edwards and Amanda Jenks at Greenacre Films I have to confess I knew very little about cricket and the Ashes tradition, and even less about this historical turning point but I swiftly learned that this was a human drama full of larger than life characters from the world of sport that you couldn’t make up. The film was narrated by the actor Tom Hardy.
